Has U.S. Electric Grid Been Compromised by Hackers

The intrusions were discovered after electric companies gave the government permission to audit their systems, the ex-official said. The official was not authorized to discuss the matter and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

This comes nearly on the twilight of President Obama’s 60-day cyber security audit of all government agencies due on April 17th, according to Department of Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano.

Bush’s cyber security efforts drew wide spread criticism from the IT community for being myopic and failing to partner with businesses and foreign governments. “We live in a connected world,” says Melih Abdulhayoglu, CEO of security firm Comodo.
Northrop Grumman Corp, Lockheed Martin Corp and Boeing Co, the Pentagon’s biggest contractors, already are working on a variety of cyber security projects for the U.S. government, many of which are classified.
