News Corp Threatens Web News Fee – Where’s the Value?

News Corp is threatening to charge for access to its news websites by the middle of next year. Where exactly is the supposed value in exchange for their intended news fee? Is News Corp. hemorrhaging revenue and talent, or are they just becoming greedy? They also might break off their relationship with Amazon.com Inc’s Kindle e-reader, unless News Corp can get a sweeter deal.

One has to wonder if the massive youthful internet market will tolerate Murdoch’s News Corp. throwing weight around and turning the Internet into his mere luxury as a more traditional revenue stream like his newspapers and TV stations, and then charging to read his news.
Or will youthful Internet users simply move on in a way to signal that he never learned to play- he never actually got it… like Google and others did with innovation and attitude.
There are signs that Murdoch has NOT learned how to steer MySpace into the future, especially now that the market has settled down from all the previous speculation over his purchase. Reality is setting in. Sheer size does NOT create dominance anymore – just ask General Motors. You read it here first !!!
Remember how Internet users reacted to the arrogant AOL that went against the progressive grain. AOL is approx. 1/10 the size (if that much), it once was during it’s peak.
