Arti­cle V of the United States Con­sti­tu­tion describes the process whereby the Con­sti­tu­tion may be altered. Alter­ing the Con­sti­tu­tion con­sists of propos­ing an amend­ment or amend­ments and sub­se­quent rat­i­fi­ca­tion.
The Archivist of the United States, who heads the National Archives and Records Admin­is­tra­tion (NARA), is charged with the respon­si­bil­ity for admin­is­ter­ing the rat­i­fi­ca­tion process under the pro­vi­sions of 1 U.S.C. 106b
